How Does a Love Calculator Work?

Understanding the methods behind love compatibility scoring

A love calculator estimates compatibility between two people using algorithmic analysis of their names, birth dates, or both. While no algorithm can truly measure love, these calculators use consistent mathematical methods to produce entertaining and shareable results.

Three Distinct Methods

Our calculator offers Name Match, FLAMES, and Numerology — each analyzing different aspects of your connection. All calculations are deterministic: the same inputs always produce the same results.

Love Calculator Methods Explained

Three algorithmic approaches to compatibility analysis

Name-Based Love Calculation

The Name Match method analyzes the characters in both names to determine compatibility across three sub-dimensions:

Name Harmony

Character frequency similarity via cosine analysis

Letter Chemistry

Positional interaction and letter diversity

Sound Match

Vowel-to-consonant ratio comparison

The overall percentage is a weighted average of these three scores.

FLAMES Game Calculator

FLAMES is a classic pen-and-paper game popular across South Asia. Each letter stands for a relationship type:

FFriends
LLovers
AAffection
MMarriage
EEnemies
SSiblings

How to play: Write both names, cancel out common letters (one-to-one matching), count remaining letters. Cycle through F-L-A-M-E-S, eliminating one letter each round at the count position until only one remains.

Numerology Love Compatibility

Numerology calculates a Life Path Number from your date of birth by reducing each component (day, month, year) to a single digit, summing them, and reducing the total (preserving master numbers 11, 22, 33).

Example Calculation

March 8, 1993 → day 8, month 3, year 1+9+9+3=22 → 8 + 3 + 22 = 33 (Master Teacher)

Compatibility is determined using a traditional numerology matrix. Our calculator combines life-path compatibility (60% weight) with name numerology (40% weight).

How to Calculate Love Percentage on Paper

The classic pen-and-paper method used in schools worldwide

The most popular paper-based love calculation uses the word LOVES (or TRUE LOVE). Here is the step-by-step method:

1

Write both names on paper. For example: ALICE and BOB.

2

Write the phrase TRUE LOVES or LOVES underneath.

3

For each letter in LOVES, count how many times it appears across both names. Write down each count.

4

Add adjacent digits, carry over to form new rows, and repeat until you get a one- or two-digit number — that is your love percentage.

Alternative FLAMES method on paper: Write both names. Cancel matching letters one by one. Count remaining letters. Cycle through F-L-A-M-E-S removing the letter at each count position until one remains.

Common Mistakes & Myths

Things to keep in mind when using love calculators

Love calculators predict real compatibility

No algorithm can measure genuine love. These calculators are designed for entertainment and fun, not as relationship advice.

A low score means you're not compatible

Many of the world's strongest couples would score differently on a name-based test. Real compatibility depends on shared values, communication, and effort.

Full legal names give more accurate results

The algorithm is character-based — try nicknames, full names, or pet names for different perspectives. That's part of the fun!

Testing the same names expecting different results

Our calculator is deterministic — the same inputs always produce the same output. Try switching to a different mode (FLAMES or Numerology) for a fresh angle.
