How to Calculate Percentage — 3 Core Formulas
The three fundamental percentage formulas that cover almost every scenario
1. Find X% of a number (e.g. discounts, tips, tax)
Result = (Percentage ÷ 100) × NumberExample: 15% of ₹2,000 = (15 ÷ 100) × 2,000 = ₹300
2. Find what % one number is of another (e.g. exam scores)
Percentage = (Part ÷ Whole) × 100Example: 45 out of 60 = (45 ÷ 60) × 100 = 75%
3. Find the whole when you know the part (reverse)
Whole = (Part × 100) ÷ PercentageExample: 30 is 15% of what number? = (30 × 100) ÷ 15 = 200
